UHM, IS IT? IS IT REALLY? BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY A WHOLE MONTH OF S UMMER HAS GONE BY.
...capslock abuse aside, I really don't know how the summer is going this fast. At least I'm having a lot with it? Went to the free film series at the library last night with some friends, and seeing Vienna Teng tomorrow night! I am wicked excited for that, her music is great live.
random link time: I saw this and thought of Jon, since he's our fine recent-grad looking for a job, but I thought I'd post it for everyone since it seems like a useful link.
http://www.mypursuit.com/
it's got college and job stuff. All of us are pretty much past the college part but since we're all in the midst of trying to figure out what the heck we want to do next, it's fun to look at the job sections, both for possible "oh huh, that's a job?" and for getting some ideas of what's really available to people in your field, as they have actual job listings for alllllll kinds of catagories- everything from biologists to anthropologists to even things like card dealing? Lol. It's worth a quick peruse.

In the browsing room again, haha. This is becoming a habit. In some ways it is probably isolating me from Jordan and Leah more, but on the otherhand the lights are off at 10:30 every night and it's hard to get work done or chill or draw or whatever when you have the ONLY light on in the room that is obviously bothering everyone else. And so here I am. In the browsing room. Also, here I actually get shit done on occasion *gasp*.
For example I was in here last night, prepping my essay for Asian Traditions. That's right, first day back and we have an essay due. But that's alright, I worked on it for 2-3 hours last night basically going back through the main textbooks and reading through the sections on the four empires I was describing and then typing up an outline of the reasons I found (complete with quotes!) for their decline. It was actually really satisfying. I forget sometimes how much I like sifting through materials and finding the flow and pattern of things. It's something I think I need to remind myself of, because in some ways I've slipped away from that person. I sometimes wonder if I burnt out after about 11 years or something or maybe just realizing how exciting it is to have a social life tuned out some of the drive I've had so long. Anyways, it feels really good to be taking a history class- it's something that makes me happy and makes me passionate. Therefore, NOTE TO SELF: as much as possible take history classes, or social classes that contain history. It makes you damn happy.
Oh. And last night at dinner I ate four spoonfuls of hot sauce on a dare. I would have ate the fifth but the whole table pretty much wouldn't let me. I saw myself afterwards and I can see why, I looked like total shit XD eyes watering like I'd been crying like baby and entire face was bright red, but really it was not that bad on the stomach. Mostly just discovered I had chapped lips. Oops.

"The mood of the electorate remains as it was at the beginning of the presidential campaign. Americans are disappointed by the choice of candidates they are offered, concerned about the many serious problems facing the country, and skeptical that any President can make much difference. They long for a change, yet are fearful of taking a chance on an inexperienced President.Much of the avowed support for the candidates is still based on opposition to their opponents rather than on genuine enthusiasm for one man or another."
Sound familiar? These words were actually written in Time Magazine right before the election of 1980 between Carter and Reagan. Doing research for a paper on the Reagan campaign, it's interesting to see the parallels between now and the late 70s- both then and now the American public was weary and suspicious of anything involving the government- then Watergate, now Bush's continual lying and attacks on civil liberties, then inflation at its highest in years and a housing market crisis, same as now. Then the Iran Hostage Crisis that had gone on for over a year- our people, stuck in a desperate situation in the middle east with the government seemingly unable to come to a solution while the American public looked on with a strange dual view: all at once a central issue that had to be solved, as well and something that had gone on for far too long and would seemingly never come to an end. Though different, the Iraq War pulls a surprisingly similar set of parallels as an issue in this election.
In 1980, Reagan, the 'inexperienced' candidate, ultimately won in a landslide against Carter, who many "made Americans feel two things they are not used to feeling, and will not abide. He made them feel puny and he made them feel insecure." Perhaps the stigma of Bush's record to do the same will follow McCain, in addition to McCain's many, many other mistakes, will help the 'inexperienced' candidate (now Barack Obama) to victory. I certainly hope so, even if I, like the many voters of 1980, and casting a vote against rather than for something.

Dear stomach:
You seem to be continually stuck in my throat. This, I believe, is not your proper place. In fact, I know it to be true, I've done the cat dissection! Also it is extremely inconvenient, considering that this is my last week of high school. While we're at it, inner ear, what have I done lately to piss you off? Last time I checked I haven't done anything to cause the extreme dizziness and nausea you seem to think necessary. Downright rude if you ask me. If you know, you all could, you know, lay off, that'd be fabulous.
Sincerely,
ME.

My new photography gallery
I've really started to enjoy photography the last half a year or so, especially since starting digital photo class. Only about 10 or so photos up right now while I play catch up, but I'm pretty proud of them. Check it out.

So, for Christmas I got a iTunes giftcard, and it should get used. I've been in a bit of a rut lately with music. SO, flist you get to help me out:
1. Who are you listening to these days? What are some of your favorite songs by them/ songs you think would be good introductions to them?
2. got any mixes or soundtracks that just rock? Tell me about 'em.

haha sometimes dorkdom is a good thing. Yesterday this 10 or so year old was looking at the anime dvds with his mom. And then I realize he's looking at the avatar dvds and was all ":D oh hey, that's a good show" And the mom was all "oh yeah, he really likes it".
Meanwhile the kid's looking through the dvds, obviously not finding what he's looking for. So I ask them which they're looking for. So the mom turns to me and was all "do you guys have the second dvd for season three".
Without a second thought I immediately reply, "oh no, that doesn't come out until the 22nd!"
yeah. being an utter dork is fun sometimes. I lol'd when the mom was all "hah! told you so!" to her kid when I told them.
Finally got around to reading Fruit Baskets vol. 17
I registered to vote today. Kind of exciting. It was funny though because it took me longer to find parking than it did to register, wtf. I figure be an independent for now and just switch into whatever primary I want to vote in. Easier that way.

....the judges are ALWAYS DOUCHEBAGS. ALWAYS. They kick off this guy who had one bad week, and it totally wasn't the worse dress there instead of kicking off the guy who's dress was BORING, badly made and had an ugly hemline, not to mention he's been consistently BAD every week.
grrrarrrg.
(I was totally going to make a real post, but then I watched Project Runway and it sort of ate any plans I had of coherence :D )

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today, 30 September 2007). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. Add an asterisk to those you've read more than once. Underline those on your to-read list.

Ok, what?
So I have a paid account. Doesn't have to renew till next April. That's fine and dandy. And then Liz gave me use of 100 icons, which I would have thought lasted quite a while. But all the sudden I can't access over half my icons. Anyone know what's going on?
ETA: ok, poked around and figured out the whole fact that user pics can be purchased for 2 months, 6 months etc. Did not realize this. So went and paid it for the rest of my paid account time. Should pay automatically once a year from now on.

...because it lets me find things like this:
"Do you know the sum total of my ambition? It's to have an intelligent, well-read man shut himself up with my book for four hours and to give him an orgy of historical hashish. That's all I want." --Gustave Flaubert, Jan 1860, while writing his book about Carthage
and the best part is I was actually looking for something not at all related to Gustave Flaubert. Now I need to find out who he is, because, because just look at the quote! *scuttles off to find more about him, and finish her AP English hw*

They totally screwed up my schedule. I am right now resisting using my CAPSLOCKS OF RAGGGGGE. I am going to fix this. I am going to storm the castle go to school on Tuesday and have a little chat with my counselor because right now:
Three.Studies. Three!
No Science course, despite me signing up for one.
No Art Class, despite me signing up for one.
Didn't give me the gym I asked for (though I guess I don't really care...)
(Also, I don't have the AP Eng teacher they said I was going to have, but that I don't mind)
Here's my schedule, at the moment:
Semester 1:
Block 1 Blue: Study, Shenker
Block 1 Gold: Personal Fitness, Matson
Block 2: Odyssey, Simpson and Ledig :D :D
Block 3 Blue: AP English, Waters
Block 3 Gold: Study, Kosartes
Block 4: Spanish 3, Gaudiano
Semester 2:
Block 1: Spanish 4, Hall
Block 2: Odyssey
Block 3 Blue: AP English
Block 3 Gold: Study, Robb
Block 4: Stat, Armstrong
Subject to change, hopefully.

I gotta say, I love having my license. It just makes it so much easier to get out and do stuff. Even if there are crazy people on the road. Lots. of Crazy. People. Which means I'm still working on the whole changing lanes aspect of driving, what with everyone driving so close together on routes like 114 and 28. Utterly Crazy out there I tell you.
Anyways, returned a shirt to Marshall's and then popped over to Kohl's where I got this adorable dress :D It's blue and green and brown and cream and has lots of little zigzags. Plus it was on sale. I love it. I might post pictures later. Certainly you'll be seeing me wear it once we get back to school. I knew this whole having-a-job gig would work out eventually. mmmm, income. Yeah. I think I'm starting to ramble.
Miss you guyssssss D:
